Last week I got invited to an influencer night at the Fashion Museum in Antwerp. I had the opportunity to visit an exhibition about Martin Margiela. Although I live in Antwerp I had never visited the Fashion Museum before, so I was quite excited when I got the invitation. After reconsidering my outfit for the night about 10 times and taking half the day off from work to find the perfect shoes to match with it (more about that in my next post), it was finally time to pick up my friend Maxine and visit the exhibition.
Margiela is a Belgian stylist who graduated from the royal academy of fine arts in Antwerp in 1980. Before starting his own label, Maison Margiela, in 1988 he worked as an assistant for Jean Paul Gautier. And in 1997 he became the creative director for the Hermès women’s ready-to-wear collections.
Over the years Margiela combined his work for his own label with twelve collections he designed for Hermès. The exhibition shows these collections from 1997 – 2003 for both Maison Margiela as for the house of Hermès.
Not only were we spoiled with the visit to the exhibition and the great guide who told us all about Margiela and his collections. Multiple Belgian brands had a cute stand with items we could use to make pictures with and there where even cute stickers on the floor to make awesome flat lay pictures. Also there was an awesome photo booth where you could make pictures and print them immediately as a souvenir.
Before heading back home we enjoyed a dinner served by Finjan and a few glasses of cava.
If you are interested in fashion and haute couture you should definitely go and visit this exhibition which will be running in the Antwerp Fashion museum until 27/08/2017.
